Churches and religious communities
Registration in the Register of Churches and Religious Communities is carried out in accordance with the Law on Freedom of Religion and the Legal Status of Churches and Religious Communities in Bosnia and Herzegovina ("Official Gazette of BiH", no. 5/04) and the Regulation on the Establishment and Maintenance of the Unified Register for the Entry of Churches and Religious Communities, their Unions and Organisational Forms in Bosnia and Herzegovina («Official Gazette of BiH», no. 46/04).
Churches and religious communities are communities, institutions and organisations of believers, established in accordance with their own regulations, teachings, beliefs, traditions and practices, which have been recognised as having legal capacity and are entered in the Register of Churches and Religious Communities in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The register of existing and new churches and religious communities, their unions and internal organisational forms (hereinafter: the Registered Entity), is maintained by the Ministry of Justice of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
By the Law on Freedom of Religion and the Legal Status of Churches and Religious Communities in Bosnia and Herzegovina, the continuity of legal personality of historically established churches and religious communities in Bosnia and Herzegovina is confirmed in accordance with religious regulations and the internal organisation of the Islamic Community in BiH, the Serbian Orthodox Church, the Catholic Church and the Jewish Community of Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as all other churches and religious communities, which had been recognised as legal entities prior to the entry into force of this law.
New churches and religious communities acquire legal personality in the manner provided for by the Act and the Regulations.
