Reinforcement of Local Democracy



30.09.2009. - Representatives of 14 BiH municipalities have signed with the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) Memorandum on Understanding for the Project "Reinforcement of Local Democracy". The Project "Reinforcement of Local Democracy" (LOD) should contribute to democratic stabilization, reconciliation and further development of BiH through support to the selected municipalities for establishing improved relations between local authorities and civil society, and facilitating financial mechanisms for improved services delivery to the citizens.

Memorandum was signed by the representatives of municipalities which are selected, in accordance with the predefined criteria, for the participation in LOD Project, and those municipalities are: Banja Luka, Bihac, Bugojno, Doboj, Gracanica, Laktasi, Maglaj, Mrkonjic Grad and Novi Grad Sarajevo.

Focus of the Project is to establish lasting partnerships between civil society organizations and local authorities by raising awareness on cooperation and encouraging sustainable dialogue, as well as to generate unique and transparent mechanisms for allocation of municipal funds provided for the project activities of civil society organizations. Project also encourages civil society organizations to professionalize their activities, adopt practice of long-term planning and act in accordance with local needs in the community.
