Negotiations on the Amendments to the Agreement on International Legal Assistance
04/09/2009
22.04.2009. - Ministry of Justice of BiH and the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Croatia have agreed the initiative on amendments to the Agreement on International Legal Assistance in Criminal and Civil Matters. Amendments to the Agreement will mainly relate to criminal matters, and primarily to the enforcement of court decisions pronounced in one country, in cases where a convict is found in the other country.
Proposed amendments relate to the abolition of "volunteerism" in the execution of criminal sanctions, because the existing Agreement defines that convicted persons must give their consent to serve their punishment in other country.
Ministry of Justice of BiH and the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Croatia have exchanged the texts of amendments to the Agreement on International Legal Assistance, and discussions on this issue are scheduled for the end of April.
The response of the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Serbia to this initiative is also being awaited, considering that the readiness for negotiations was expressed in earlier negotiations.
