Agreement on Legal Assistance Signed with the Republic of India

29.10.2009. - Minister of Justice, Mr. Bariša Čolak and Minister of Internal Affairs of the Republic of India, Mr. Mullappally Ramachandran have signed today, in New Delhi, Agreement on Mutual Legal Assistance in Criminal Matters. Agreement significantly enhances cooperation in the fight against organized crime, i.e. efficiency of the two countries in the prevention, investigation and prosecution of perpetrators of criminal acts, tracing, blocking, forfeiture or confiscation of funds intended to finance terrorism, as well as proceeds and instruments of organized crime.
The Agreement, inter alia, includes mutual legal assistance in locating and identifying persons and objects, serving and providing information, documents and records, taking evidence and obtaining statements, facilitating the appearance of witnesses before court, facilitating the assistance of the detained persons in investigations, blocking of funds and financial resources intended to finance terrorism etc.
Expert teams of the two delegations have also negotiated today about the conclusion of the agreements on extradition and transfer of the sentenced persons. Signing of those agreements would completely regulate the legal cooperation between Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Republic of India, and it would create a more favorable environment for cooperation in all other areas.
