The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) celebrated its 50th anniversary and 15 years of its presence in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Through the Justice Sector Development Project (JSDP- www.usaidjsdp.ba), USAID has supported various reforms in the establishment of more efficient and independent justice sector, ready for EU accession.

USAID support is currently focused on the implementation of BiH Justice Sector Reform Strategy. Implementation of this Strategy will directly affect the lives of all citizens in Bosnia and Herzegovina, since it relates to the establishment of independent courts and prosecutors’ offices, improved prison system, provision of free legal assistance to all citizens, mediation, alternative dispute resolution and reform of land registry system.

Over the previous period, the United States Agency for International Development contributed to the strengthening of capacities of the Ministry of Justice of BiH, through the establishment of modern databases (central database of serious crimes, software for monitoring international legal aid cases, software for monitoring BiH Justice Sector Reform Strategy implementation), which significantly facilitated and expedited work of the Ministry. With USAID support in the establishment of new web site, advanced public consultation process was established and it was enabled that all interested citizens and legal persons participate directly in drafting laws and other regulations of the Ministry of Justice of BiH.
