15. 06.2009 - Mr. Barisa Colak, Minister of Justice of Bosnia and Herzegovina, met today Mr. Clint Williamson, US Ambassador at Large for War Crimes Issues. At the meeting were discussed current issues related to the extension of mandate of international judges and prosecutors as well as the improvement of cooperation between Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Republic of Serbia in the prosecution of war crimes cases.

Minister of Justice of BiH informed the US Ambassador that numerous activities and consultations are initiated in order to establish the needs and modalities of the extension of mandate of international judges and prosecutors. "After careful consideration of argumentations for further presence of international judges and prosecutors, as well as against that, it seems justified to extend international presence at the second instance level and only in the War Crimes Section," emphasized Mr. Colak.

At the meeting was also emphasized the importance of improvement of cooperation between countries in the region for the prosecution of remaining war crimes cases. In this regard, the Ministry of Justice of BiH will undertake all necessary measures to establish a common basis for the prevention of impunity of perpetrators of war crimes, whose draft was agreed between the Chief Prosecutors of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Republic of Serbia. The agreement between the two countries, as well as other opened issues, will be considered at the meeting of Ministers of Justice of the two countries, which is scheduled for June 29.
