Ministry of Justice of BiH has held expert, interactive conference, where the Main Project of the state prison construction has been presented to the representatives of the professional public and relevant institutions. This was an opportunity for the exchange of professional opinions on the functioning of the future state prison, with detailed presentation of the structure and purpose of prison facilities.

Main features of the project make this prison the most modern and safest one in comparison with all other institutions of similar purpose in the country and on the Balkans also. The project is fully complied with the European Prison Standards. The greatest part of funds will be spent on the latest high-security systems. The prison will have the net surface of approximately 24.000 m2 and it will contain only single cells of approximately 12 m2. All necessary health care will be provided, where needed, without leaving the prison. The prison will have minimum costs for the electricity, due to the maximum energy savings through the use of self-renewable energy sources and minimum running costs.

Technical assistance team that has developed project documentation is comprised of approximately thirty experts in different areas: architecture, civil engineering, plumbing and sewage systems, mechanical engineering, electro installations, security systems, roads and landscape, environmental protection, self-sustainable energy sources, waste water treatment, public procurement, prisoners’ activities etc., with experts who have extensive experience in managing such institutions.

This week has been announced first call for tenders for the preparatory works on the state prison construction. During the following week, two more calls for tenders will also be announced, with two lots (for access road and street lighting, supervision over works on the access road and street lighting). The works are deliberately divided into smaller parts, in order to have more bidders at the tenders.

Construction of the high-security state prison will be fully completed by 2013.
