Ministry of Justice of Bosnia and Herzegovina will soon announce call for tenders for carrying out the preparatory works and implement other activities to complete construction of the high-security state prison in the following two years.

After modifying the original project, Ministry of Justice of BiH has undertaken the numerous measures to make the implementation of further activities fast, efficient and qualitative.  In a short period of time, the Project Implementation Unit has completed the adoption of the Preliminary Project as well as development of the Final Project. Preparation of the access road and announcement of call for tenders for the major works will start by the mid-year, namely after the adoption and revision of the Final Project.

To provide participation of local companies in the tender and job for a hundreds of our workers, the project will be divided into several phases and smaller parts. Through the web site of the Ministry of Justice of BiH, all interested bidders will be able to see public procurement calls related to the state prison construction and to apply for the published tenders.

Original deadlines for the construction have been changed due to the revision of old and development of a new project, namely after its harmonization with the latest prison standards. Development of the new project was fully financed by the European Union. Increase of the prison’s total surface area, utility costs, security systems, access roads etc, increased the cost of the construction to approximately 77,5 mil KM. The project will be funded from donor, loan and budget funds. Decision of the Council of Ministers of BiH, of November last year, determined the state prison construction as the long-term capital investment.

The state prison, with the capacity for 350 prisoners, will accommodate convicts and detainees of the Court of BiH. It is a closed-type and high security prison. The state prison will be the only prison of this type that will comply with the standards prescribed by the European prison rules and BiH laws, which is very important having in mind that the existing entity prisons are facing with the problems of overcrowding and inadequate capacities. Construction of such facility is of great importance for the entire security situation in the country, as well as for the functioning of the court, justice and police system in our country.
