Drafting of the Strategy for Development of Sustainable Civil Society in BiH Started



After holding the first constituent meeting of the working group, intensive activities on drafting of the Strategy for the Establishment of Supportive Environment for Development of Sustainable Civil Society in Bosnia and Herzegovina have started. This comprehensive strategy creates legal and institutional framework for further development of civil society in our country. The document will serve as a basis for programming the future support of the European Commission to the development of civil society in BiH.

By signing the Stabilization and Association Agreement, Bosnia and Herzegovina has obliged itself to give full support to the development of civil dialogue, through the establishment of supportive environment necessary for further development of self-sustainable civil society. In EU countries, non-governmental organizations are recognized as the institutional form of society, which gradually takes over performance of public affairs and providing of services to the citizens, as the democratic form of exercising and protecting the public interest.

Strategy for the Establishment of Supportive Environment for Development of Civil Society in BiH provides the basic guidelines to all levels of government for the improvement of legal, financial and institutional system of support to the development of civil society. The aim is to ensure independence and pluralism of civil society and national institutions and political processes open to the public.

Working group for drafting the Strategy for the Establishment of Supportive Environment for Development of Civil Society in BiH is comprised of five representatives of the competent institutions in BiH and civil society organizations in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Deadline for completion of the Strategy is four months after the establishment of the working group.
