Beginning of Works on the State Prison Construction

Beginning of works on the construction of access road to the location Naklo in Vojkovici, Istocna Ilidza, on December 2, 2011, has marked the preparatory works for the state prison construction on the territory of this municipality. 800 meter-long road, with rain and sewage drain, curbs and pedestrian trail, whose total value is 710.000 KM, should be completed within 120 days. Back in 2009, the contractor GP "Put" Istocno Sarajevo built the wall around the future prison - 500 m long in circumference. Planed budget of 1,6 million KM for the road construction was reduced by the cost rationalization.
Total planed cost of the project is 39,6 million EUR, and funds have been provided from several sources. The Council of Ministers has provided 6,45 million EUR, which includes the land where the prison is located and whose value is 1,3 million EUR. Council of Europe Development Bank has provided 19,3 million EUR loan. Technical assistance of the European Commission for the project is 1,7 million EUR, donation of Sweden is 2 million EUR, 9 million EUR is provided from IPA funds, and 1,1 million USD is foreseen for the training of the future prison staff.
Audit of the tender documentation for the main project, i. e. prison construction, will be conducted in parallel with the execution of those works.
It is planned that state prison should receive the first prisoners by the spring, 2014.
